Spring Boot Maven and Dependencies

Create a maven project in your favorite IDE.
Let us name the project: spring-boot-tutorial. The purpose of this project is a tutorial that deals with objects in the milky way galaxy.

Open or create pom.xml file. For Spring-Boot, we should add it as a parent to our project.

<parent>
	<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
	<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-parent</artifactId>
	<version>1.5.10.RELEASE</version>
	<relativePath/> 
</parent>

We are using 1.5.10.RELEASE. Please use the latest version. This is when the tutorial was written.

Add the following dependencies to pom.xml

		<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
		<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-web</artifactId>
	</dependency>

	<dependency>
		<groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
		<artifactId>spring-boot-starter-test</artifactId>
		<scope>test</scope>
	</dependency>
</dependencies>

We have added a Web dependency. This will give us capability of Spring MVC - Model-View-Controller and also REST framework.

Add Spring Boot Maven Plugin:
